Vanessa Adams is Director of Gateway Academy, the Learning Lab’s specialized, one-on-one school that provides a complete and accredited school environment. She has diverse experience in education having served five years as a school psychologist in the Williamson County School system, and at the Learning Lab since 2010. A licensed school psychologist in Tennessee, Ms. Adams received her B.S. in Special Education from Middle Tennessee State University; she also holds an M.A. and an Ed. S. in School Psychology.
Blair Powers is Director of Education for the Learning Lab’s Green Hills Center where she oversees the tutoring center, as well as Gateway Academy. She originally joined the Learning Lab as Learning Specialist. Prior to the Learning Lab, Ms. Powers spent several years teaching a blended Pre-K classroom in the Metro Nashville Public School System, where she gained an understanding of the importance of early education and differentiated instruction. Ms. Powers holds a B.S. in Special Education from Vanderbilt University, with a focus on high incidence disabilities and early childhood education.
Mark Grissom is the Behavior Specialist at the Learning Lab. He has over 12 years of experience working with children with various behavioral, social, and academic needs, with a focus in working with children with autism. Mark has received his M.S. in Special Education from St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia; he also holds a B.S. in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo in New York.
Maurie Ponder is Assistant Director at the Learning Lab Green Hills. A professional educator, Ms. Ponder has taught English composition and literature, creative writing and test preparation for the ACT and SAT. She has worked in education for fifteen years, including the last five teaching, tutoring and working in her current position at the Learning Lab. Ms. Ponder holds a B.A., cum laude, from Davidson College and an M.Ed. in English Education from Vanderbilt University, Peabody College.
